Overview: In the Bible, hyssop is referenced with the words: "Purge me with hyssop, and I will be clean." For millennia it has been used as a holy herb, consecrated for cleaning holy places. The origins of its name are from the Hebrew word adobe, which literally means "holy herb". Long ago, Hyssop was hung in homes to provide protection from the evil eye, and witches. It was also frequently planted on graves as protection for the dead.
